Mexico was at it again on Saturday. Eighteen people were killed in a shootout in Acapulco. At least this time 16 of the 18 that died were suspected members of a drug cartel instead of children. Since December 2006 more than 10,800 people have been killed by Mexican soldiers in their battle against drug violence. Give yourself a pat on the back Mexico!

Thanks to Mexico’s lax safety standards, 35 children were killed in a daycare fire yesterday. The daycare is housed in a former warehouse with only a few small inaccessible windows and only one exit. A mere six adults work at the state-run daycare which can legally accommodate up to 190 children.

Mexico has a long history of large death tolls due to it’s obvious disdain for safety. Why worry about a pandemic when they kill helpless children by essentially trapping them in a burning warehouse with only one way out?
