National Right To Life News recently reported that Planned Parenthood performs an abortion every 95 seconds, or just over 900 per day. I was shocked and appalled at this number. Though, probably not for the same reasons as NRTLN. There are over 11000 babies born in this country every day. If we are to have a good chance at reducing the population through effective family planning, abortions need to be more available than ever. We really need to consider at least having them be government subsidized so they can be free, or perhaps offering easy to use at-home abortion kits. I know I won’t rest until we start seeing at least 6000 abortions per day.

In only 43 years the population of the world has doubled from 3.5 billion to 7 billion.
Today, countries around the world are celebrating the birth of “7 billionth” babies. I don’t really see what is worth celebrating here. Being able to successfully reproduce is clearly not much of a challenge if you look that 7 billion number. However, it is nice to see that some questions are finally being raised about overpopulation and how sustainable population growth will be.
The good news is that the growth rate has slowed in recent years. But we are still are still expected to add another billion in just 14 years. With so much talk about conservation these days and the idea of saving energy and being green. Why not make the ultimate green choice and not reproduce?

Dudo Erny has written a new book called Babbling Green which highlights the main issue we here at NGF have been discussing for many years. Overpopulation is for some reason a taboo topic among most environmentalists. The earth might be technically capable of supporting a much larger population, a fact that is commonly dragged out as a way to dispel the whole idea of overpopulation as nothing but a myth. Billions of people live in poverty around the world and most of the earths 29 megacities (cities with populations over 10 million) are in developing countries where economic, political, and social issues prevent any sort of care to be taken in dealing with the environment and management of local resources.
For example, Manila is a city with 20 million people and growing by 250,000 per year. Space is so scarce that hospitals pack 4 or 5 mothers per bed with their newborn babies into beds. Pollution is rampant and the general quality of life is quite terrible. Why is Manila so overpopulated? Well, the majority of people are Catholic and contraception is taboo. As a result, having 4, 5, 6, or more children is not an uncommon thing.
We commend Dudo for tackling this issue and certainly consider him to be a friend of the future.

The 2010 world population data sheet published by the Population Reference Bureau has projected that the world population will reach 7 billion in 2011 and could be 9 billion by 2050
267 people are being born every minute and only 108 are dying.
For a little perspective, the population of the world in 1950 was 2.2 billion and we already felt crowded enough at that time to have been through two world wars.
What does this all mean? Well, it means that unless you want the photos below to represent life pretty much everywhere, you MUST do your part to stop the endless cycle.
Stop reproducing and start supporting corporations, organizations, and governments that do their part to reduce the population!

Full of their lust for power, fame, and money. A group of scientists completely unchecked by the federal government have created a monster and plan to release it in the wild. The genetically engineered malaria proof mosquito.
This is truly a tragedy. Malaria infects up to 500 million people annually and 2-3 million die from it. NGF members have been hoping for a breakthrough in creating a form of super malaria that would increase the death rate but getting support for that seems more than difficult.
Instead we now have a malaria proof mosquito and if the release of it is successful, malaria could end up being nothing more than a dream in an overpopulated world with billions of people desperately trying to find some sort of disease to put them out of their misery. Read the full story here

The shape and face of things to come

Scott Roeder
was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole until he is 104 for the murder of Dr. George Tiller. (Read the full story here). While we here at NGF are happy that he was convicted of the murder and won’t be eligible for release during his natural lifetime, it seems as though the punishment doesn’t quite fit the crime. Perhaps death by firing squad should be brought back just for this nut job.
Dr. Tiller was a brave man who did some good work. While he did not perform normal elective abortions to end pregnancies that were simply unwanted, he did prevent some babies from being born with severe birth defects or abnormalities. And that’s a heck of a lot more good than Scott Roeder has done for this planet.

Despite being the 5th most powerful earthquake in recorded history, the anticipated reduction in global population today was a non-event.
Chile is well equipped to handle earthquakes, so the loss of life was not the same as seen in Haiti. We will be lucky if the death toll tops 1000.
We had strong hope for the tsunami that sped across the Pacific, but the waves just were not big enough to cause much damage.
Oh well, perhaps another day.

A magnitude 8.8 earthquake has hit Chile and tsunami was triggered and is travelling at 500 mph across the ocean, may possibly hit Hawaii.
New updates will come as they are available. We may have a nice dent in the population today!

So the official death toll from the earthquake in Haiti is now around 170,000 and is expected to reach 200,000. This is a big improvement from the estimate in our previous post and will set the growth of the population back by a few years at least.
There is also a lot of talk about decentralizing the population of the country during the rebuilding process by moving people out to smaller villages and cities throughout the island. This of course is good, but much more needs to be done to reduce the population in order for there to ever be hope for the country.
Right now all sorts of ships and planes are bringing food and medicine to the country non stop. Why not bring condoms and birth control and a little bit of education to go along with it?
In the meantime, there is still hope for another big earthquake. A nearby fault which is thought to have a lot of pressure built on it barely moved during the 7.0 quake that hit the island.

The earthquake in Haiti may seem like great news to all of us who wish for a good reduction in population. Especially for a country as densely populated and impoverished as Haiti.
Haiti is a great example of what happens when population grows unchecked. Resources are extremely scarce and almost every single tree in the entire country has been cut down.
The population continues to grow and grow because there is no education, no birth control, no family planning, and simply not quite enough disease and disaster to keep things in check.
For example: The Red Cross estimates that as many as 50,000 are dead from the earthquake. But for a country that has a population closing in on 9 million there will be over 100,000 babies born this year.
Maybe they will be lucky enough to have a dozen more big quakes so that the good people of Haiti can start to live well again.
