Today, Oxfam International released a glowing report of the future to the G8 which is meeting in Italy this week.

It says that as the weather changes, millions of people in areas suffering food scarcity will have to give up traditional crops, possibly leading to social upheavals such as mass migrations and possible conflict over water resources. The report also went on to mention that corn crops could be widely affected by global warming. Potentially removing a primary food source for 250 million people.

However, the news is not all good. The most disappointing part of the report says that only 60% of the world’s agricultural potential is exploited and that with modern farming techniques the world has a good chance of supporting the estimated 9.2 billion people that will inhabit this earth by 2050. We can only hope that they are wrong.
